Church
Church photography is all about capturing the ambience, emotions and reverence associated with spiritual activities and events. From a Sunday morning service to a special event like a wedding, baptism, or major holiday service, what I can provide for church groups is quite meaningful. Documenting special times for people while being respectful of their church space and the people within it is a great responsibility. Often times the lighting in churches can be challenging so I try to do my best to use the natural light available through windows or supplement a little with artificial light in a manner that keeps the focus on the event and does not disrupt the service. With church photography, I am able to create a photo story. Whether that story is told through the faces of congregants, the inside details of architecture, or the quiet face of a member planning in quiet contemplation.
Working on church photography builds my patience, observativeness, and my ability to anticipate meaningful moments. Simply put, it is more than taking pictures: it creates visual documents that memorize feelings of the moment for years to follow. Every session creates a challenge to be creative while attending to the decorum and appropriate behavior for the place. Using the decisions made concerning composition, angles, and timing are important to creating pictures that reflect the story I am trying to tell; organic, meaningful, and thoughtful.
